Lowland Leader Assessment £175
The Lowland Leader qualification is designed for those who wish to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland, particularly in summer conditions. Since the majority of the UK and Ireland consists of this type of terrain, there are endless opportunities for walking adventures. Leadership opportunities for Lowland Leaders are varied and far-reaching, from the South West Coast Path to the Great Glen Way. Walking in lowland areas can be just as spectacular as trekking in the mountains, and with initiatives such as Britain on Foot and Walking for Health proving popular, there has never been a better time to become a walking leader.
Before booking a Lowland Leader assessment, there are a few important requirements to complete. You must be at least 18 years old, have attended a Lowland Leader training course (or received an exemption), and be familiar with the syllabus. In addition, you should have logged at least 20 walks in lowland countryside across different types of terrain, including woodland, coastal, and farmland. You must also have physically attended and completed a first aid course lasting a minimum of two full days (16 hours) that included an assessed element.
The Lowland Leader assessment runs over two days, with a minimum of 16 hours contact time. Assessments are delivered by approved providers, and a variety of cost packages are available depending on what is included, such as food and accommodation, allowing you to choose the option that suits you best. Our courses include a hot breakfast, a two-course hot lunch, and tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep you refreshed throughout the day.
