Outdoor Instructor Scheme
Outdoor Instructor Scheme
The Outdoor Instructor Scheme 2025/26 is a 16-week intensive training programme designed to equip participants with the qualifications, skills, and real-world experience needed to begin a career in the outdoor industry. The scheme runs from the week commencing 10 November 2025 through to the week commencing 16 February 2026, with a scheduled festive break and no sessions during the weeks commencing 22 and 29 December 2025. Accommodation and catering are included at the Centre, and with places limited to just six participants, the programme offers a highly personalised training experience with expert instruction and professional mentoring in some of the UK’s most inspiring adventure locations.
By the end of the scheme, participants will gain a broad range of nationally recognised qualifications, including Rock Skills, Hill Skills, Powerboat Level 2, RYA Sailing Levels 1 and 2, Paddle Safety and Rescue Course, Paddle Sport Instructor, a 16-hour Outdoor First Aid certificate, and the Archery GB Instructor Award. Alongside these qualifications, the programme includes additional continuing professional development through walking, climbing, paddling, and sailing days, as well as multi-day expeditions in North Wales, Scotland, and the Lake District. Participants will also benefit from lectures, keynote speakers, industry guest sessions, and structured online training modules covering COSHH, safeguarding, GDPR, Level 2 Food Hygiene, and manual handling.
On successful completion of the programme, participants may have the opportunity to be offered a seasonal instructor contract at the Anderton Centre, allowing them to put their newly gained skills into practice in a professional outdoor setting. The course fee is £10,000 plus VAT per person. This scheme is ideally suited to those aged 18 and over who are passionate about the outdoors, keen to gain a wide portfolio of qualifications, and motivated to begin a career as an outdoor instructor while valuing both hands-on training and professional development.
