REC 16 Hour Outdoor First Aid Course £150
This two-day (16-hour) Outdoor First Aid course provides a practical, hands-on approach to managing casualties in outdoor and remote environments. The training combines essential theory with practical exercises and realistic scenarios, helping participants build confidence and competence in real-world situations.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to understand the basic workings of the body, including the heart, lungs, and airway, and how to carry out effective casualty assessments. Emphasis is placed on making sound decisions in emergency situations and managing incidents safely when conditions are challenging or when medical assistance may be delayed.
Training follows the REC scheme and builds progressively across key areas of outdoor first aid. This includes emergency care such as vital signs, airway management, CPR, AED use, bleeding control, choking, and managing unconscious casualties. You’ll also cover environmental conditions including heat- and cold-related injuries, common illnesses such as chest pain, stroke, asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes, as well as injury and rescue scenarios involving head and spinal injuries, fractures, soft tissue injuries, casualty movement, and communication.
To meet the RYA syllabus, the course also includes content on drowning, immersion, and seasickness.
Successful participants will gain the REC Outdoor First Aid qualification, which is valid for three years and recognised by RYA, Paddle UK, Mountain Training, and other National Governing Bodies. Breakfast and lunch are included on both days, and accommodation is available on request, subject to availability.
