The RYA Youth Scheme is a fun and engaging way for young people to learn to sail. The Stage 1 course is designed for beginners and requires no prior knowledge. It teaches the basic skills and knowledge needed to steer a boat around a simple course. Boats used on the course may include Funboats, Toppers, and Picos.

Sailing is a skill that improves with practice, so it’s recommended that participants get out on the water between courses whenever possible. To build on what is learned in Stage 1, we suggest following up with an RYA Stage 2 course to consolidate and develop your sailing skills further.

The course is suitable for young people aged 10 to 16. For younger children, the Anderton Adventure Days offer alternative fun activities. The Stage 1 course runs over two days, from 9:00am to 4:00pm each day.
