Inform swim organiser at the swim entry of any injuries, medical issues or disability.
Before entering the water, take a wrist/ankle band from the board at swim entry and check in on the register. On exiting the water, check out and return the band.
You must wear a brightly coloured swim hat to ensure that you are visible.
Available to purchase from the Anderton Centre - please ask a member of staff.
So that we can supervise effectively and avoid collisions, follow the designated swim course and enter and exit the water where directed.
We recommend that you wear footwear between the changing rooms and swim entry.
Cover any cuts or broken skin with dressings, even if it is under your wetsuit.
Do not swim if you have any open wounds, or have recently had a tooth removed.
Do not swim if you are recovering from an infection, virus or illness as your resistance will be low. In addition, the drop in temperature during your swim may have unforeseen effects.
The reservoir provides drinking water. Please do not urinate in the water and do not swim if you have suffered from diarrhoea or vomiting in the 48 hours before your swim.
If in difficulty, do not panic. Roll over on to your back (your wetsuit will keep you afloat) and put one hand in the air to indictate that help is required. A kayak or safety boat will be dispatched to assist. A flotation device will be deployed if needed.
If you need to hold on to a kayak, only hold it at the front or back end so as not to capsize it.
If you pass a swimmer who is in difficulty, notfy a member of staff.
Should there be any emergencies, or if weather conditions become unsafe the hooter will be blown with 3 short blasts. On this signal, exit the water and follow any instructions from session personnel.
Dress in warm clothing as soon as you exit the water. Your body temperature will have dropped.
To minimise any risk of leptospirosis, shower afterwards, rinse and clean your wetsuit, hat and goggles, and wash your hands before eating and drinking. This will also prevent the spread of invasive species between open water venues.
Inform us of any injuries or illnesses that are sustained or occur as a result of your swim.
‘Reservoirs contain operational infrastructure and unseen risks. Swimming is not allowed on Lower Rivington, unless through an authorised swim session at the Anderton Centre. These managed swim sessions have additional safety measures to ensure that swimming can take place safely. For your own safety please do not swim at any United Utilities’ reservoirs.’
